Why are dentures or partials so important? โพ
Missing teeth initiate a cycle of progressive damage: bone loss accelerates without the stimulation of tooth roots, remaining teeth shift and tip, facial structure changes, and chewing becomes increasingly difficult. Dentures and partials interrupt that cycle โ restoring function, structure, and appearance. In many cases, patients find they look visibly younger after a well-fitted denture, because the underlying facial support is restored.
What should I expect at my first appointment? โพ
Your first visit is a consultation โ an unhurried conversation about your situation, your goals, and your options. Please bring your photo ID, insurance card, and a list of any current medications. If you've been referred by a dentist, bring that referral โ Blaine values working collaboratively with dental teams. If you currently wear dentures, please avoid adhesive on the day of your appointment, as it makes proper evaluation more difficult. No referral is required to be seen.
How long does the full process take? โพ
Typically five appointments over several weeks. Each step is carefully executed: initial impressions, final impressions, bite registration with shade selection, a wax try-in where you preview your smile and give approval, and finally delivery. Your custom dentures involve approximately 16 hours of skilled lab craftsmanship. After delivery, we provide 90 days of follow-up support included in your care.
How do I adjust to wearing dentures for the first time? โพ
Patience and consistency are the most important factors. Consider dentures like any other prosthetic โ adjustment takes practice. Begin with softer foods, take smaller bites, and wear them consistently throughout the day to accelerate the learning curve. Some patients adapt within weeks; others take up to six months to feel entirely natural. We will support you throughout, and are always available to make adjustments.
How should I care for my dentures? โพ
Remove them each night โ your gum tissue needs oxygen and rest, and overnight removal significantly extends the life of your dentures. Clean daily with a soft brush and plain water; avoid toothpaste, as its abrasive particles create microscopic scratches where bacteria proliferate. Store overnight in water to prevent the acrylic from becoming brittle. Use a denture cleaner such as Efferdent or Polident at least weekly to manage bacterial growth. Keep them away from pets โ animals are unusually attracted to the scent.
My denture broke. Can you repair it? โพ
Yes โ and please resist the temptation to use super glue or any household adhesive first. The chemicals in these products damage the acrylic and prevent repair material from properly bonding, significantly complicating what might otherwise be a straightforward fix. Bring it to us as soon as possible. In most cases, we can complete the repair the same day.
Do you accept Medicaid? โพ
Yes, and we are proud to do so. Every patient who comes to Turner Denture Clinic receives the same level of craftsmanship, attention, and respect โ regardless of insurance type or coverage. Please call us to discuss the specifics of your coverage and how it applies to the services you need.
